Talbot Training #1

I had decided to try to trace the starting fault e.g. my 'clonk' on the Talbot today. The first job was uncovering both batteries and making sure the connections are greased and tight. Seems you have to take the floor up to do that.

This exposes the batteries plus the gearbox - with a big TALBOT on it. I attended to the terminals and they were fine of course. The 'clonk' remained.

I then removed the cut-off switch from the chain by connecting the two ends. The 'clonk' remained.

It looks like it's an orange and red wire which then runs into the fuse box.

Can you spot it ? There is a key on the back of the fuse box cover but that is quite faded. Anyway after a lot of looking I found the Dynamotor itself (I think) at the end of the starting handle under the front cover. I also found another set of fuses there. I also found the starter solenoid - almost under the fuel pump. It seemed to have the same orange and red wires to it.

As a positive I found where the front indicator light bulbs could go if I can make a fitting.

Anyway I had another run around the block [starting after about 8 'clonks'] before getting Jana to try to start the car as I listened for where the 'clonk' was coming from. It was not the Dynamotor nor the Solenoid and appeared to be coming from the inaccessible area behind the engine.

However I think I can get in there by taking more of the interior of the car off .... but what's in there ?
