Two out of Three ain't bad

The morning was spent tinkering with the Alpine. First thing was to test the heater and oddly as soon as I put some power on it it started fine and just on kept working from then on. The switch was fine too so I found another power supply for that and then spent a long time under the dash trying to get the heater controls to work.

In the end the one that directs the air was jammed and broke off the fitting on the flap. A pretty odd design as it was probably twisting the metal for at least 30 of its years. I also broke a drill bit trying to drill a hole in it to attach a fitting - but in the end I just put the wire through and clamped it down and then went in for a rest.

Next SAAB to the boat for a quick check and drop off paint.

Then home and off for a test drive. The fan worked fine the car ran well but there was no overdrive - I had obviously used the wire from the overdrive which seems to have relay really attached to the circuit so I stopped and changed over - I even tested the lights.

Then I had overdrive but it turned out I had no heater - so then I stopped again and attached the heater to yet another fitting and ended up with heater and with overdrive. Result.

But when I got home I had no headlights - so how I managed to do that I don’t know but it’s a job for tomorrow. Almost 70m miles done though.

I did add some foam to the steering box cowling to stop the wired rattling though.

Better news is the horn just started to work so there we are one less job to do.

Late news - spotted us in the ECR forum too.
