ITMA

SAAB out and about for walks.

But the day was dominated by leaked Covid-19 news.

I'm not sure he can say 'we're all fucked' on national TV at 6:30 but that's what I heard.

Anyway new lockdown as of Nov 5th - Boris might see the irony in that date with the public loosing faith in parliament ...

Plus c'est change ...

... plus c'est la même chose.

SAAB run to get more booze ahead of the next lockdown when I spotted this in the carpark. Another lowered 'rat look' classic. Not sure I go for it though.

I also found the picture of the E-Type I thought I had taken a few years ago. Rather too easily - as if it was waiting for me.

Anyway, more than 5 years ago. They still have the dingy I see but the car park has gone to pot.

Just riding again

Mk2 to Heath Road again. Lift in the Mk7. Then looking for tiles - domestic day really.

Rain most of the day anyway.

Oh and then another set of E-Type felts turned up.

Then in the evening had a reason to unearth this one from 1995.

Cool.

Clear out

Spent the morning moving cars. But they were only models as I cleared out my study.

The felt arrived for the E-Type - looks hard to fit.

30 Feet

Moved the Mk7 back for the builders and that was that.

Cleaning it up

I started by looking for the loose bolt to tighten the steering column - it appears to be a felt bush that needs replacing. SO it's on order.

Next was the cleaning and the E-Type really was in a muddy mess when I looked closely underneith.

I even took the rear wheels off to get under the arches - realising I did not know how to jack the car up ... Anyway four very black buckets of water later the under side was cleaner and I started on the top.

It came up good though with a layer of polish but no wax.

Whilst I'd been cleaning it I had the Alpine parked in the garage.

It looked too inviting to ignore (if a little dirty) so we went for a run in the cold later on.

You've arrived in style

That's what the man said to Jana as she stepped out a a very muddy, rain splattered E-type at the Yoxford Antique shop later that day.

Earlier I'd decided to use the car even though the weather was bad. The car did not want to start (fuel needed drawing through) but then it's been over a month since it was started. We'd set out in the rain that only got worse - but the car only leaked a little.

We arrived in moody dark clouds and parked up in quite an empty muddy Waberswick car park.

Returning after our walk to a heaving car park we were greeted by an enthusiastic posh chap next to us who knew it was from 1964 and said the whole family (in the van next door) liked the car. I was also surprised by the number of appreciative looks we got on the way out of the busy village.

Then after a run and the visit to that Antique shop we were again greeted by someone having a long look at it in their car park (with his phone out) this time. Anyway it was filthy although it still looked great in the sunshine.

The run home as uneventful bar noticing the steering column was loose and the right indicator tell-tail was not working inside the car.

However we did park in another muddy antique shop car park and I'm sure I've taken the same picture before. I'll investigate.

So a good clean is due and some jobs for this week to say thanks.

Nutter Tools

Just dropped off a few tools as spread out in the boot of the SAAB.

Oh and the dehumidifier.

Friday, 23 October 2020

A nil return

Other jobs took priority so although the cars were visited a few times - no activity took place.

Unless you count trying to get rid of the spiders that seem to insist on 'spotting' on the E-type.

Photo Call

Started the day sorting out the MK2 as I needed to take the usual pictures for the insurance.

Vacuumed it out and sorted bits and bobs - then the boot would not stay shut - so I fixed that, Just a sticky connection really.

I also noticed there was a drain hole under it - or somewhere to squirt lubricant perhaps - I'll try that before I take the panel off next time.?

I then got around to washing the car - which is what I had intended to do in the first place.

With the sun on it it looked like all the lights had come on. Anyway off I went to take pictures and do jobs.

Then PM I took the Alpine round the block - still working well at slow speed.

Electric Friend

The only excitement on a very miserable and rainy day was the silent run of the cherry picker as it left.

Another Sneaked out

Lots of 'trades in today' so the drive was full.

Then SAAB out pm to clear crap from Silk Street back garden.

Finally when everyone had left it was time for around the block with the Ferrari. It was squealing again on one of the bullies. Not sure which one and a drop of oil seemed to help - but I'll investigate again.

It started first time (4 times on the trot) - even though it's been ignored since late September.

First time start - then off for a dash

SAAB out first thing to Stutton - parking in the village hall car park - for a morning of EB'ing.

When I got home I had to maneuver past the two large vans the builders starting the bathroom had parked up.

In the afternoon I decided to get the Imp started at least  - which it did first time after a few turns of the starter motor. I let it idle for 5 mins before switching it off. It's not been started for 12 days, so I did use the blow heater on it which much have helped.

Then when the drive was clear and the sky not too overcast I pushed it out of the garage and went for a short run. It's getting colder so I'll need more layers next time - fun though.

I also must lower the drive just outside the garage doors to make it easier to push out.

Back to the routine

Aston to the bottle bank - looking mean.

But not as threatening as this huge 8 M series BMW.

On the way home I went to 'fill up' with petrol - I gave up after 10 mins as it was so slow.

I also heated up the Imp but the rain came back so I gave up on that - but the SAAB got a couple of utility runs.

Saturday, 17 October 2020

Big White and Small Green

MK7 down to Brentwood (and into the Tier 2 Covid area) to pick up the Aston - which was indeed ready.

Sitting inside the workshop next to the now very clean DBX - that looked better inside. Interestingly my car had gone 0 miles. Oh and they may not be able to keep my wheels much longer.

Anyway the run back was good if a bit busy.

Then PM Caterham out and about - to deliver bitumen - obviously.

I'd forgotten it had no fuel so the run to the petrol station has slightly tense. It took about 26 litres so there was still something in the tank.

Four **** service

Dropped the Aston off first thing for the overdue service and MOT. Longest I've driven it all year I think.

Parked up easily as there were lots of spaces.

It seemed a bit deserted inside too - no one at reception and only one Salesman. I had a temperature check (I am a bit cold) and then dropped off the keys. All the cars were fenced off in the showroom too.

I had a look at the new DBX outside - not my cup of tea - but I'm told they are selling well.

Train journey back empty as was the part on a deserted a new train,

Late afternoon I called the Service Manager to see what was going on. He left the line open when checking on the progress of the car in the workshop. His team swearing a lot and saying it was not even on their ****ing job list and this was at 16:00.

Anyway he called back later to say it will be ready tomorrow.

Then late a lift to B&Q in Oli's Passat - quite a difference.

Thursday, 15 October 2020

Just unpacking

Another day without car action. Must look into that one day.

Wednesday, 14 October 2020

Utility x 2

Mk7 passenger ride to the Hospital - I suspect it knows the way now.

Then early evening SAAB into town to help move some white goods for Oli. Odd to think the last time I was passing the Ipswich Marina it was warm and sunny and I was in the Imp doing the sunset shot.

Tuesday, 13 October 2020

Rain and more Rain

SAAB run across a windy and wet bridge to Felixstowe. Then splashing through the puddles home.

Monday, 12 October 2020

Whereas I do fancy one of these

Spotted a mean looking Land Rover in Gloucestershire before we drove back through the rain showers.

Not sure the £37k was attractive enough though even if it was a Twisted conversion.

However in Covid-19 news the country is about to enter three tiers of regional lock-down and things are looking worse for Winter. Much worse. Oh and Christmas is probable cancelled.

Sunday, 11 October 2020

Unusual - but I don't fancy it

Running around in the MK7 and came across this 'low-rider' in the car park.

I'm sure the owner loves it but it's not one for the fleet.

Plants and Crossing the country

Busy morning collecting plants and running around.

Followed by a trip to Stutton and then a dash to Gloucestershire late pm with a Golf full of plants. Not a bad run at just under 3 hours.

Friday, 9 October 2020

The Swedish team

SAAB to the boat for an half day sail in the last sunshine of the year - perhaps.

Thursday, 8 October 2020

And it's a Swift goodbye

Late lunchtime dash to sell the Swift back to the dealer. It's a crime how good the car is at 15 years old - a bit battered but it should get another young driver on the road eventual.

Going up the sky slope if felt about as 'swift' as the Imp - although it did make it without slowing down. Well the Imp has/had 35 hp and the Swift has 90 which is about the same as the Alpine.

Then a Mk7 ride back in the rain.

Wednesday, 7 October 2020

OK it makes odd noises - but no drips

Golf out in the morning to deliver a plant and swap for the Swift.

Then Imp out and about in the afternoon sun - iPhone merge worked well on different exposures.

And look - no drips - which was impressive I thought.

I took it around the block and filled up with petrol. I even toot-tooted Lucy and EB on the way around - much to there surprise.

Then Alpine out too - trying to photograph it with two flash guns on the stands to compensate for the sun behind - but I forgot the fittings so they had to rest on the floor. It still worked ok.

Tuesday, 6 October 2020

SAAB to the coast

Short post lunch run in the trusty Swede as it looked like rain again - which arrived heavily early evening.

Monday, 5 October 2020

Oh it won't rain

Back to the bottle bank as an excuse to get out - decided I'd miss the rain but as the forecast was a 85% change ... I did not.

Aston lights seemed very red in real life but an orange on the camera, however in the gloom this was all that came through.

Sunday, 4 October 2020

Just more lifts

Again just the rain and a ride in the Mk7 for excitement today - hospital pick-up.

Oh and an unexpected quick utility trip in the SAAB to sort out wifi in the rain and gloom.

Saturday, 3 October 2020

And here is comes again

Just a ride in the Mk7 to check on the boat - the dark clouds were forming as we walked there.

... And the only time it rained was on the walk back !

Oh and then late night flashing lights as we watched the ambulance take Nana away for a check up.

Apparently the wettest day for UK-wide rainfall since records began in 1891.

Friday, 2 October 2020

That's the noise of rain

Most of the day it came down - so no classic action - or any reason to go out really.

Thursday, 1 October 2020

October starts and September scores

Today was autumn again - so SAAB to drop off the Mk7 at the main dealer for a service and then the Mk2 to pick it up during a brake in the clouds. The oil warning buzzer came on a few times on the Mk2 but then its not had a lot of use.

Early evening the SAAB was used as mini cab running people around - including a trip down an unmade road to a flash mansion - I was just another worker there in my 55 plate.

So, looking back at September the E-Type won with 145 miles and the Alpine a close second with 133, whilst the Imp was an impressive third at 76.

Both the Jaguar and Sunbeam mileage was boosted by long runs; Hyde Hall and Ickworth respectively.

The other four combined were short of 100 miles between them.
