The vales seemed to be set in with metal lugs - so I left them alone.
Took off the new one to see if that was the same – it was. The diaphragm and seal were fine. It was full of rust in the bottom of the bowl, but not the filter. So I cleaned it out and put it back on.
The got the lug the wrong side of the arm that ‘pumps’ – again and again and again and again - so it took four goes to get it in the right place. I used a bit of string to keep the pump leaver up and over the cam as I fitted it.
Bowl filled up fine once in the right place.
Added an electric fuel pump to raise the pressure – made no difference. There is enough fuel in the carbs – they are very wet (and sooty) so what it is running it’s very rich.
Car won't start again.
