Bank Holiday and Rain

Well looks like a quiet day - hope for sun later in the week. Tinkering next weekend with e-type indicators - I thought I'd checked them before bolting everything back together. Ho hum.

Sun came out in the evening though and got the Italian out.

Reversing light was it ?

Only spotted it while er.. reversng out of the garage at the very end. Disconnected it and presto no more blown fuses, mind you no more indicators either....

That's a job for next weekend though.

5 days ago we set out

and now we're back. A few fuses light and a dismantled dash board. But back.

Story of two halves....

M25 and run down

What do you get when you cross a 46 year old car with the hottest day of the year on the M25 through road-works and the Dartford crossing ? 4 hours of very hot running and an exhausted driver that's what.

But I did see light blue Aston Martin DB5 Volante dashing around the A3. Strangely also saw "coo" a red e-type on the A12 before I set off. Sure I have seen that one before.

Got a warm thumbs up on the motorway though which always helps and admiring "Le Jaguar" in the hold of the boat. Running very hot and bothered though, but water was fine when I checked it yesterday. Need to check oil though as something is smoking. Probably fuel as only got about 200 miles from the tank.

Chatting up Dutch lorry drivers in the ferry queue, lots of genuine interest - sounds superb says the younger one. I bet it goes fast. "Not really", but I bet it does a hundred ? And he probably meant miles an hour ?

Catching a French housewife in the car park showing her little one the car as he sat in the back in the seat the car.

And then the fuse went.

And the rain came down.

Then it was not fun any more. Managed to rig up a direct connection from the battery to the live side of the fuse box. Well , that give power all right and got the wipers working again. Wire running out side of the car was a bit doggy though .

Decided the same effect could be achieved just by clipping the wire to either side of the fuse box and bypassing the fuse . Well I'll look out for smoke as the fuses were blowing for some reason . Using a switch to turn the connection on And off.

But what was needed most was the fan , so I may need to run it more than I want going on the m25 tonight . Let's see whathappens... I hope the lights work too.

Got home but using too much petrol too running too rich ? Smoking but not using much oil.

Mixed All sorts

Started Ginetta for a burble sitting in the garden.

Mr. E run to the bottle bank and Halfrauds for bits and bobs ahead of trip to France.

Italian Tin long run in the sunshine - odd hissing on return - could be because it got hot for the first time in months - sounded like steam escaping. Will investigate further.

Gambling on Rain

'Fraid it did down pour - if only for 30 mins but yes cats and dogs.

So made the right decision on not taking out a car.

Wet Italian

Went for the run - just as the storm clouds covered the coast. Got back in a downpour.

Well it did give me an excuse for leathering off.

That wax works wonders.

Oh and blue SAAB back last Friday - runs well - so I'll be trying to keep it to 200,000 miles.

Free at last - Free at last !

Alpine sprung after a bit of digging.
Bonnet back on - surprisingly easily too.
Runs fine - bit of a squeek from the steering somerwhere but generally as good as new.

Bonnet Better

Just a bit on the bonnet to clean the underside and paint the top. Looks better for it.

Also did the timing 10 deg after TDC.

Sun came out as well - so Mr. E and Italian went for a run to warm them.

Oh and SAAB got a clean.

Tinkering

A little tinkering in the cold damp day.

Bonnet next - but could not be bothered today. Did clean Alpine bonnet though and took off spot lights. Getting ready for Summer - May and heating still on.

So dull

Nothing to report on and nothing to see.
So here's a pictire of the inside of the Italian Tin.
Still traped or boxed in due to building work. Need to break free at the weekend - weather permitting.

Monday, 3 May 2010

Shopping

Shopping - everyone has gone shopping. Porsche something (Cayman) in the car park was highlight. Other than that lots of bling bling BMWs - but nothing of note.

Ruined Run

Felixstow run wahed out by rain rain and oh yes more rain. Did not attend. Saw wet Stags in convoy on way back and red (not a period colour ?) mark 1 Cortina.

All else drowned.
